Olha Kobylyanska

1863-1942

Writer, publicist and translator. An active member of the feminist movement in Bukovina – area which used to be part of Austria-Hungary and then the Soviet Union prior to Ukrainian independence. Kobylyanska depicted a new image of an active and strong woman, as well as wrote about the provincial intellectuals and rural life in Ukrainian villages. She developed the theme of intellectuals’ and Ukrainian village life.
