This still-life painting was created in peacetime. There is a table shown immediately after the meal. On the other hand, the photo demonstrated a table set for a funeral. It is rich with meals, yet its richness is made from the soldiers’ daily rations. The pho- tographer Youry Bilak has put fruits on the table, a pot of jam from the Independence Square in Kyiv, broken plate from the burnt Trade Union building, a charred icon and a painted helmet. There are also sniper bullets. On the left: photo of an 18-year-old boy Heorhiy whom Bilak met on the Independence Square. Heorhiy left Kyiv to fi ght the enemy and defend Ukraine; he has fallen in the battle. The candle on the table is lit in his memory.

Willem Claez Heda “Nature morte au jambon” ou “petit-déjeuner) (1656)

Cette nature morte de l’artiste fl amand fut peinte en temps de paix, elle représente une table après un repas. Sur cette photo la composition de Youry s’en inspire, la table est dressée comme à l’accoutumée lors des funérailles. Elle semble abondam- ment garnie, mais cette opulence est le contenu des rations journalières d’un soldat. Youry Bilak a rajouté quelques fruits. Près d’un pot de confi ture qu’on a off ert au photographe à Kyiv sur le Maïdan, fi gurent également d’autres présents, une assiette abîmée provenant du bâtiment des syndicats, une icône brûlée du Maïdan, un casque peint ainsi qu’une balle de sniper. En haut, à gauche, la photo de Heorhij (Georges), un jeune héros de 18 ans que Youry avait rencontré sur le Maïdan. De Kyiv (Kiev), il s’en est allé sur le front défendre l’Ukraine, mais n’en est jamais revenu. En son hommage, une bougie illumine cette nature morte.
