Bohdan Ihor Antonych

1909-1937

Poet, novelist, translator and critic who had a significant influence on the modern Ukrainian poetry. His poems acquired a widespread recognition beyond Ukraine and have been translated into many languages. However, Soviet authorities prohibited his works as products of “bourgeois nationalism.” The ban was lifted only in 1960.
