Film director, screenwriter and artist. One of the symbolic figures in the Ukrainian cinema. Dovzhenko’s film Zemlya [Earth] (1930) was recognized as one of the twelve greatest films of all time by a group of 117 film historians at the 1958 Brussels World Fair.
